William Gibbons, MD- Reproductive Endocrinologist Fertility Specialist, Baton Rouge
Dr. William Gibbons is board certified in reproductive endocrinology
and infertility and in obstetrics and gynecology. He completed his
medical training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
He subsequently completed both a residency in obstetrics and gynecology
and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at
Baylor.
Dr. Gibbons is a highly respected clinician, researcher, and innovator in the field of reproductive medicine. He left the prestigious Jones Institute for Reproductive medicine to provide fertility specialist services to patients in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and the surrounding regions.
In 1979, Dr. Gibbons joined the faculty of the University of Southern
California School of Medicine in Los Angeles, where he was a member
of the team responsible for the nation's second In Vitro Fertilization baby. Dr. Gibbons is also a prolific researcher and has been involved in many "firsts" in reproductive medicine.
Dr. Gibbons returned to Baylor in 1982 to direct the Division of Reproductive
Endocrinology and Infertility. He served there until joining the Jones
Institute and accepting the chairmanship of the department of obstetrics
and gynecology at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk,
site of the birth of America's first "test tube" baby.
Dr. Gibbons is a founding member and past president of the Society
of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He serves on the board
of the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technologies. His other memberships
include the Endocrine Society, the Society of Gynecologic Investigators,
the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the Society of Reproductive
Surgeons, the American Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and
the Wimberley Society.
