Clomid Challenge Test

This test predicts the likelihood that IVF will be successful using the patient's eggs. A failed Clomid challenge test predicts a poor IVF outcome and some fertility centers will not allow these women to undergo IVF unless they use an egg donor. A poor test also indicates an increased chance of miscarriage.

The CCCT challenge test is performed as follows:

  • FSH and estradiol levels are measured on day 3 of the ovulatory cycle.
  • The patient takes 100 mg of clomiphene on cycle days 5- 9.
  • FHS is measured again on cycle day 10.
  • FSH levels above 10 on day 3 or 10 are abnormal.

We don't exclude women with a poor CCCT from the IVF program. We do strongly encourage these couples to consider donor egg IVF because of the vastly improved success rates, which are over 50% in some cases.
