Post Coital
The post coital or, after intercourse
test examines the quantity and quality of sperm movement in the cervical
mucus a few hours after intercourse. Normal cervical mucus provides
nourishment and a transport medium for sperm.
The couple has intercourse at home, near the time of ovulation, and
the female comes to our office the next morning. A cervical mucus
sample is collected and examined for the presence of living, swimming
sperm. If there are large numbers of nonmotile sperm, it could indicate
the presence of antisperm antibodies in the male, female, or both.
Treatment of cervical factor infertility may involve IUI,
IVF or IVF/ICSI and
is discussed under infertility treatments.
